Scholarship
Funds collected from Contributing Members are primarily used to provide scholarships to students who wish to attend summer music camps. Music camps give children time to concentrate on their area of expertise or enhance their talent by trying something new. It also allows students to be musical year round while having the opportunity to be taught by other professionals. Camps also help develop leadership skills and helps build friendships from students they meet from around the country.

When our summer camp musicians return home, the experience
does not end there. Their new skills, ideas and knowledge continue to be shared
among their peers in their respective ensembles, benefiting everyone! We see the returns of our investments
first-hand every time we attend the performances of our talented students.
Musical Needs
After scholarships are distributed, any funds left are used to pay for larger items that the school‘s budget may not be able to cover. Instruments are a great example. In order for children who play some of the larger instruments that are difficult to bring back and forth to school, the department owns instruments that are kept in the band and orchestra rooms students can use. Currently our sousaphones are close to 20 years old and have become quite beat up. The school found a way to purchase 2 new tubas, but we still need to replace 2 more at a cost of about $700 each. The department is also in need of a new electronic keyboard. Plus, it would be nice if we could commission a new piece of music from a composer written specifically for our program.
